Developer Stories

Anass LAHLAL

Tells us about your role and what do you do?

I'm Anass, and I’m a Fullstack Developer. I build both the front-end and application-specific back end code for all web-related projects, and I also work on the development of new features and fix any bugs in existing ones.

What initially drew you to Gemography?

I first stumbled upon Gemography while I was looking for software engineering job opportunities on Glassdoor, after reading the job description, looking into the company's profile on social media, I've decided to apply right away. While going through the hiring process, I kept saying to myself, “it’s too good to be true...” it made Gemography really stand out to me. I appreciated the fast feedback I was given on my application. At that time, I quickly realized that I had found a Moroccan tech company that had every single one of the things I was looking. I was hoping  I would get matched & it’s been amazing since day one. Gemography is full of highly talented software engineers and the work culture is actually very cool.

What's your current tech stack? Any favorite software tools?

I used to be team React all the way, but lately, after getting into Angular and learning more about it, I'm definitely into it more. I think it scales better, and offers an enhanced opinion regarding the application's structure. At DataHawk, our tech stack is comprised mostly of Angular on the client-side and .NET on the back-end.

How do you feel about remote work?

Honestly, overall, I love it – as much as it’s important for me to have both heads down time on my own and pairing time with colleagues. We have a great work dynamic with DataHawk. I get a lot of virtual face to face with my team every week. If I didn’t, otherwise, I'd definitely think remote work would feel too isolating.

Outside of work – if you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Definitely painting & drawing. I've always wanted to learn it when I was a kid. And also surfing. Lately, I've also been binge-waching surf videos and looking for surf school nearby in Casablanca.

What are your hobbies?

I like video games. On a basic level, my interest in video games pushed me to get more involved with computers and how software works. However lately, I only play Fortnite from time to time with my friends, not quite enjoying solo games anymore.

What was your dream job when you were a kid?

Engineer. Yeah, not many people get to say they're living their childhood job, but I guess, I got kind of quite lucky when it comes to that.
